Tucson, Arizona

a city and the county seat of Pima County, Arizona, United States, located 118 miles (188 km) southeast of Phoenix. population 521,605 (2004), metropolitan population at 931,210 (2004); the city is ringed by mountain ranges; long known as a winter and health resort but the population shift from industrial states to the Sunbelt resulted in rapid growth late in the 20th century.
