Jamestown

Jamestown was established in 1607, on the James River in Virginia, in what is currently James City County, about 45 miles (70 kilometers) southeast of where Richmond, Virginia, is now located. Both the river and the new settlement were named for King James I, who had recently ascended to the English throne.
